A Bit about sandra Leer

Sandra Leer has worked in the field of mental health and human services for more than 35 years. Her career spans private practice, Child and Youth Mental Health, child protection, non-profit organizations, camp-based industry counselling, and work within isolated Indigenous and small northern communities. For the past five years, she has operated in private practice, bringing the breadth of that experience into a structured and deeply informed clinical setting.

Sandra describes her work as a theoretical practice grounded in Resolution-Based Therapy (RBT) and nervous-system-informed care. Her approach integrates attachment theory, developmental science, and regulation-based principles into practical, structured sessions designed to produce meaningful change. Rather than focusing solely on symptom management, Sandra works to identify the patterns organizing distress and helps clients reorganize those patterns toward stability, clarity, and growth.

She works with individuals who have experienced trauma, chronic stress, relational injury, and complex life transitions. She also supports clients who may not identify with trauma but are seeking a more intentional, regulated, and sustainable way to live. Her sessions are collaborative, structured, and grounded in the belief that insight must be paired with skill-building and integration in order to create lasting change.

Sandra’s work with parents is a natural extension of her developmental lens. She approaches parenting challenges through a nervous-system framework, helping caregivers understand behaviour as communication rather than defiance. Assessments are focused on identifying lagging skills, strengthening connection, and reducing conflict and risk in the home. Her work supports parents in becoming regulated, confident leaders within their family systems.

In cases of high-conflict divorce, Sandra provides steady, structured guidance that prioritizes child development and emotional safety. She brings experience from child protection and complex family systems to help reduce escalation, clarify boundaries, and protect children from ongoing relational harm. Her approach remains practical and grounded, even in emotionally charged circumstances.

Sandra is currently developing additional resources to expand this work. A parenting book and course grounded in nervous-system principles are in progress, along with professional materials introducing Resolution-Based Therapy for clinicians and thoughtful readers interested in theoretical yet accessible frameworks for understanding human behaviour and change. These projects reflect her ongoing commitment to contributing to both families and the broader professional community.
